"If you don't have anything nice to say......come sit by me," Clarice, Steel Magnolias.
While reading your morning blogs, do you ever turn to one of your favorites (or maybe not so favorite), eager to see an anticipated reveal which is, at least to you, so awful that all you can think is that this must be some kind of joke. But after reading the post, you realize the blogger is in earnest and is, in fact, being flooded with comments along the lines of "So Great!," "So Pretty!" What do you do? Do you leave a snarky anon comment? Do you keep silent, allowing this travesty to be passed off as good design? Should one even be judging the quality of another blogger's work? Do you leave something noncommital like "That's really something I would never have thought off," or "You really do have a unique vision" ? Or do you join in the praise (esp. if it's a blog friend) while thinking, I'm never letting that person near MY house? Does it make you question what others think of your own posts? Enquiring minds want to know.

I do one of two things in this kind of situation, I either don't comment at all, or I leave a noncommital comment. What do you do?

Usually, I just shake my head in disbelief and pass on by....and then reference it without identification in a blog post.
Do bloggers even care what us non-bloggers think? Seems like we (non-bloggers) are a nuisance in the blogging world!
that's a toughie. i usually wimp out and don't leave a comment at all.
god, i'm nosey -- of which blog post are you speaking of?!?!?!
i don't think you've ever seen my blog, but now i'm scared it's me.
Anita, I have indeed been to your blog---and IT IS YOU...just kidding (but not about being to your blog)
I'm a nobody, but I just think a snarky comment to myself, then go on to the next blog. Different strokes for different folks...and clearly I have no business judging.
PS- Sometimes after a couple glasses of wine I'm tempted to write an anon comment with some super-honest and witty remark, but I always keep myself from doing so.
I don't have a blog but I read quite a few of them and I generally don't leave comments because it would take up most of my day.
I try not to judge the reveals because I am not experienced enough to know whether it's a good design. If I do leave a comment I tell the truth. If I don't have anything positive to share I don't say anything. Sometimes I'm just having a lazy day and I don't feel like commenting even though I like the reveal.
Have you ever seen a room that was well designed and you still didn't like it?
We need more wit and snark and less ass kissing. Having good taste and/or an opinion is not judging.
Bloggers put it out there and they want the glory, but sometimes you have to take the knocks too.
After the sting, even a snarky remark will often rattle the cage just enough to do a small reality check.
Just sayin'
xo xo
I won't comment but then I usually don't bother reading the blog anymore...
Every day, all day long I look at "after" pics and think HUNH??? But if that's the case, I just won't leave a comment, cause...uhm...I have a tough time hiding the snark. And also, that's usually a good sign that that blog might not be for me, and so I might not hang out there anymore. But also that's the beauty of the internet...there is something for everyone! Even peeps who like really ugly shiz!
If you like funny snark, go look at the moggit girls blog!
I shut off my computer and go for a walk.
I am so glad you wrote this post. I have often wondered if I was the only one who thought the photo showed less than stellar design...after all, all the comments were from people who loved it. I would never post a critical comment because I can tell from the post that they worked hard and are proud of the results. I don't have a decorating blog, but I do have a painting blog. It does make me wonder if all those nice comments I get are people just being nice. Something to think about!!!
